Here’s A Fire Worth Having!

If you’ve not heard about EduFire before, then where have you been? A relatively new company, I’ll give you that, but one with pizzazz, prestige and prominence in the language teaching world: EduFire is the absolute perfect partner for getting your Japanese skills, or any other language skills for that matter, to their most peak condition.

Interactive, and a whole load of fun besides, EduFire integrates live webcam classes with PowerPoint, note-sharing and whiteboarding, meaning that you can be sat in Argentina looking out across the Magellan Straits, laptop well..on your lap, and your teacher could be on the twentieth floor of the JR Tower in Japan. Combine this with the fact that you get to meet a whole host of other people also learning the same topic as you, and you begin to realise that not only are you building your skills as a linguist, but your contacts as a networker. Teachers from all over the world are coming together to impart their linguist know-how, all in one place, from all parts of the globe, meaning there’s definitely going to be something in there for you.

EduFire has honoured me with the massive privilege of being able to give away one of their SuperPasses, a truly remarkable prize, and one that is bound to launch you straight to the top of your linguist ability. Before I tell you what you need to do though, just go ahead and see what benefits you’ll be raking in:

So, avid reader, what do you need to do? Well, it’s pretty simple. All I need from you is a haiku poem, either in English, or Japanese. It has to be original, so no ripping off Basho, right? This being Caught*Red-handed and all, there’s going to be a catch, and that catch is that the haiku must include one, or more, of the following words:

The words can be conjugated, so you could have ‘caught’ or 赤くない for example, but apart from that, the rules are steadfast! Your entries can either be added here in the comments of this post, or via Twitter, either via DM to myself, or simply in reply to me (@c_rh). Ensure each tweet has the #crh tag included. For those who prefer privacy, feel free to email me them at ryan[at]caught-redhanded[dot]com. The deadline is midnight Sunday 20th September (Pacific Time), or 0800 Monday 21st September (Greenwich Meantime) or 1700 Monday 21st September (Japan Standard Time). For those of you who have no idea what haiku is, then click here, and if you have anymore questions, simply email me, or track me down via Twitter: @c_rh. Remember: you can enter as many times as you like!

All the entries will be judged by myself and a trusted board of haiku experts* and the best one will be picked out and placed in prime viewing position on the Caught*Red-handed website, at the top of every one of my pages! As well as winning the highly coveted EduFire SuperPass, if you’re a fellow blogger, then I’ll run a feature on your site here at Caught*Red-handed also.

Good luck: and may the best haiku win!

(* Of course, when I say haiku experts..well, you get the picture..)

  • xplosiv

  • Yea, over now, sorry about that! More competitions to come soon, so keep checking back!
  • 火 was no fire to me,
    now it is so much more;
    education.
  • Hey Seifip, and thanks for your entry. Remember, check back soon for the results!
  • I don't understand what to do. :'(

    Red fish I caught
    under sunshine
    Blue water I drink.
  • See this link for the haiku rules!
  • Childhood in hot summer,
    the boy caught
    the education across his dream
    as if
    his hand held
    the meteor across his sky.

This is my first time to write something like this, I don't know if it satisfies the requirement or not.
  • Hey kcart, and thanks for your entry! It doesn't follow the technical rules of haiku, but hey, it'll go in the pot with all the rest! Keep on commenting!

Okay, okay, so this is a fantastic competition. So, what about this then:

    Hand me the autumn,
Let the red leaves fall on down,
    Summer swiftly gone.

Love haiku, but as you can see, not particularly good at it. Managed to get two of your words in though.
  • Yea, I guess we are too! Shame though. Cheers re the images comment, and yea, I'll keep letting people know!
  • Nice idea! Love the images btw :) I guess we're all exempt from one-another's competitions, but keep spreading the word!
  • Martin
Wow!! I really want that SuperPass! So ... here I go!

    燃える紅葉や
    木の手から
    葉が土に会う

Moeru Momiji ya ( Burning Japanese Maple ~ )
Ki no TE kara (From trees' hands)
ha ga tsuchi ni au (Leaves meet earth)

Don't laugh, I know I may suck on poetry and that It's the best vocabulary... but I want that FreePass! @_@!! hehehehehe. I tried to follow all haiku's rules: Hokko,Kigo, Kireji and the 17 moras (5-7-5). So I hope you like it! ^^
  • A fantastic attempt! Between Twitter and here, the competition is really hotting up now. Good luck!
  • Sounds like a fun competition. I can't wait to see the results!
  • Exactly! So why not get involved? Go on..you know you want to..
